Welcome
Our Mission
At Nested Strategies, intentional impact is the focus of everything we do. Whether we’re supporting the fundraising efforts of a growing non-profit or helping a family plan for philanthropic giving, we strive to maximize impact thoughtfully. Our strategic process helps clients of all kinds explore and identify their values, understand how those values can serve them to help their communities, and develop a vision to support them in every step of their giving plan.
Our Team
Carter Cox
With a background in nonprofit management, philanthropy, and leadership development, Carter Cox’s passion for helping nonprofits and families maximize their impact through intentional giving led her to create Nested Strategies. Recently, Carter served as Senior Associate with Pathfinder Philanthropy Advisors (PPA) and continues to partner with PPA founder and principal, Elaine Walsh Carney, as both value the power of collaboration. Carter previously served as the Director of Operations and board member for Slow Food in the Tetons, and was on staff at the National Museum of Wildlife Art and the Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance. Professional and volunteer work further developed her passion for food systems, community resilience, and climate change mitigation. She serves on the board of The Hunger Coalition, an organization building community through food, and is part of the Wood River Women’s Foundation. When she’s not working or volunteering, you’ll find Carter being active outdoors, often times with her partner, Pat and two daughters, Piper and Tallulah.
Laura Brin
With nearly a decade of experience in nonprofit development and operations, Laura Brin brings both passion and depth of knowledge to Nested Strategies. Bozeman, Montana is her home base and where she has built a career around empowering nonprofits to thrive. Most recently, Laura served as Development Director for The Traveling School and she was previously part of the development team at Central Asia Institute. She currently sits on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Montana Chapter and from 2012-2016 served as a board member for Bridgercare Clinic. Laura sees philanthropy as a catalyst for change and the often-missing link between ideas and action. When not working with Nested Strategy clients, Laura enjoys being in the mountains, reading novels, knitting sweaters, and spending time with her family, friends and her sweet son, Forest.
Mike Gordon
For over 15 years, Mike has helped non-profits and socially-minded businesses tell their stories. He brings an eye for creative communications to the Nested Strategies team. Mike previously served as Operations and Communications Director for Lava Lake Land & Livestock, helping the ranch to realize their conservation vision through storytelling and on-the-ground support. In addition to his work with Nested Strategies, he focuses his skills on developing regional food systems through Bighorn Writing, LLC, the business he owns with his wife, Sara. When not working, you’ll find him out on adventures near and far, finding inspiration in the blank spaces on the map.
